[ Kara looks quite pleased with herself today, and for good reason too. See, she's done some very basic calculations, and she's pretty happy with the answer. ]

Dean's questions got me wondering, so I looked up Earth's orbital frequencies and calendars. It turns out that the approximate equivalent of my birthday is September 22nd. That's about five months from now, if I have the order right.

As it also turns out, in Earth years I'll be turning 23. I guess Kryptonians live a lot longer than Terrans. Who knew?

Aye. They get downloaded in there when they're finally done living. And there they sit, getting more boring and xenophobic as they go and making sure the living ones do the same.

It's really more like an archive. Actually, it comes out a bit like one of them worldminds from the... from that last breach, you remember those? Only without the ravening conquest bit.

I do. It seems like a very lazy way to keep an archive, too. Even computerized memory can't be trusted.

Programs can be corrupted easily. AI can mutate, and they can corrupt the programming. If you want to keep accurate histories you should save them in a format that can't be tampered with so easily.

Oh, I see! It's not an archive of 'istory, love. They can go look at actual 'istory any time. It's an archive of people. That's what they're saving.

'Course, they corrupt too, but that's people for you.

You save... people? Why?

[Iris shrugs.]

I think because Rassilon 'ad such a massive ego on 'im 'e couldn't conceive of the universe being able to do without a single one of 'is people. Arrogance is a bit of a racial trait, I'm afraid.
