001 - Begin at the beginning

[ Since the breach Kara has taken the time to adjust to being herself again, aand then a few hours to sit and cry at the sight of her parent’s home on Argo. She knew that she was here to revive her planet and win back her old life, but it was a lot to take in in a relatively short time. The empty house, the cold darkness outside windows that once showed magnificent sunsets and the sparkling crystal spires of some of the finest architecture on Krypton. Her clothes, more comfortable than she even remembered.

But finally she has collected herself, and put on her favorite green dress with a white cape pinned to it around her shoulders. It feels nice. It fits. She addresses the camera with dignity if not confidence. ]

Hello. My name is Kara Zor-El, and I’m a new warden here. Looking over your network I understand that the… last few days is a somewhat regular occurance? [ This she’s not so sure of, and she really hopes she doesn’t sound like a total moron. Still, only one way to find out. ]

I was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me more specifically what exactly happened?

I’d also like to know how much experience you have in treating Kryptonians, if any.

[ooc | Kara has Kryptonite poisoning, which for our purposes is basically radiation poisoning. In canon this will probably be a plot device, but I don't care or want to deal with it, so free cr to the doctor that picks up her treatment! ]

[ It's too much, and she stares at him blankly. It's all so unbelievable, from the last few days to her bedroom to the clone being 'fixed' and also engaged? She feels vaguely dizzy for a moment. ]

I- What? I don't--

It's a long and crazy story, I bet you wouldn't believe half of it. But yeah, I've done a lot of good here and people have been real good to me.

[ She opens her mouth and closes it several times before giving up. There's a horrible, sick feeling washing over her and she slumps a little in place, her energy sapping away.

Jealousy. He's only a clone, and already he has a life, a home, the beginnings of a family. Everything she doesn't have. She can't meet his eyes, but she forces a smile. ]

That's... great. Wonderful. [ And again, ] Congratulations. It sounds like things are going well for you.

[Watching Kara is a strange experience. Not that long ago, she was trying to beat him to a pulp, calling him a monster. Now, she has a strange look on his face and is actually...complimenting him? However, he's not sure if she's being completely genuine or not.]

Thanks, I've been really fortunate here. This place can be crazy and so damned frustrating, but it can be a great place, too.

[ She's really only being polite. But she's trying, and that's kind of a big deal for her. However his latest statement just gets him an odd look. ]

If you're comparing it to Earth I suppose that's a low hurdle, but you do realize you're talking about a prison, don't you? [ She's not here for a vacation, she's here for the chance to go home.

And also because Earth has been really super shitty. ]

Yeah, but it's not your typical prison. Sometimes I wish it was a little bit more like a regular prison because things can get out of control here. But it also encourages a lot more positive relationships than I think a typical prison would.

Right. [ That is very strange and she's not at all sure what to think of it. She doesn't think he would lie about something like that, it just seems silly. Maybe it's a result of his experiences, being a clone and all. ]

All the same, I don't plan on getting too comfortable. I'm only here because there's no other way.

[Kon knows all too well how desperate she is to bring her world back. She thought he was getting in the way of it and his face would have never recovered if it wasn't for his handy-dandy accelerated healing.]

You might be here for awhile. Some inmates graduate within months, other haves been hear for years.

[ She shrugs, doing her best to keep the anxiety of that thought off of her face. He doesn't need to know how she's feeling anyway. ]

It's not as though I have anywhere else to go.

You didn't make yourself any friends on earth recently, that's for sure. [Someone might still be a liitttllleee annoyed that she kept trying to kill him, or toss him aside like a piece of trash.]

[ Oh, that hurts, and she flinches from the sudden change in topic. And then because it's him, she bristles almost immediately. ]

I'm sorry, okay? I didn't know what he was planning to do, I swear. [ And, more harshly than she really meant: ] Isn't dying enough for you? Or do I have to suffer even more?

You didn't know what he was planning on doing, but you knew exactly what you were doing with me! [Stares at her in disbelief. Is she seriously upset that he's upset with her for almost killing him on multiple occasions?]

I doubt you're dying. From what I've learned, Kryptonians are crazy powerful and we've got tons of technology on board the Barge to help you out.

[ Why yes, yes she is. Didn't you know everything is about her? ]

I was stopping you from attacking him! And it's only because of me he didn't snap your neck and be done with it.

Rao curse it all, what do you care anyway? You have a life to get on with, now. Graduate your inmate and go wherever it is you're going and you'll never have to worry about me again.

Yeah right! You weren't the one defending me, it was Kal! I care because we're going to be stuck together on this boat for who knows how long. I don't want to worry about you trying to attack me or being snide towards me every time we run across each other.

Well don't! I can't kill you and I don't really want to anyway. I just want to go home, that's the only thing that matters.

[Kon keeps debating what he wants to say to her. He's torn between telling her to take a hike and leaving things be. She is trying to be civil towards him, being antagonistic doesn't help either one of them. On the other hand, it's not easy getting over all the things she's said and done to him.]

Look I just--we should talk more later. Get settled in and then the two of us can talk about everything that's happened.

[ She pinches the bridge of her nose, trying to force herself to calm down. She can't help it, she's kind of upset now. ]
