004 - It's a poor sort of memory that only works backwards

It seems like I missed a lot while I was sleeping. Was there a flood?

[ She may have been passed out for a few days, according to her communicator, but she recovers quickly and feels fresh as Kryptonian daisies now. These comas may be weird, but she doubts they actually harm her superhuman physiology. ]

Are all of my friends still here? Nobody left while I was out, did they? And what's this I'm hearing about upcoming holidays? Is it an Earth one, or something else?

It's been an interesting time since you were out. [ floods and breaches and murders oh my ] How are you feeling?

[notdreaming]

I feel... normal. I haven't needed to sleep much at all since I left Krypton, so it's kind of strange. I definitely don't feel like I've been sleeping.

Everyone handles comas differently. So long as you feel alright, you should be fine.

[notdreaming]

I'm sure I'll feel even better after having something to eat. I must not be getting as much light here as I was on Earth.

[lastincident]

I imagine the light quotient is different here, due to the barge's nature.

[notdreaming]

The lack of an actual orbiting sun probably has an effect too.

How have you been?

Busy.

[ Nobody is shocked. ]

[notdreaming]

[ She huffs. ]

Scientists are always busy. I meant how have you been, with all of whatever's been happening while I was asleep?

[ Angry. Very angry. But managing. ]

[ He doesn't say any of that, thought. ]

I'm alright. Just-- busy, mostly. Had a lot of traffic through the infirmary lately.

What happened? [ She's concerned as well as curious. ]

And they're talking about an Earth holiday, yeah. Halloween.

At least I'm not the only one out of the loop.

What do you do on Halloween?

Dress up and get candy, mostly. [Well, she doesn't.

Except last year, when Dinah forced her to give out candy with her.]

Ooooh. [ That was the most childish sense of excitement at the word 'candy'. ]

Will we get candy on the barge, do you think?

[A faint smile.] There's a good chance.

...Might want to test it first, though.

It's Halloween. Apparently. Last year we had pumpkins...

[notdreaming]

What's Halloween? And what's a pumpkin?

You hollow it out and carve faces into it, and use it as a lantern. It's a grand old time, they say.

Is that some sort of fruit? [ It kinda looks like a fruit, but if you can use it as a lantern it must be pretty big. ]

It's a gourd. You know what those are?

[notdreaming]

I do, actually! I didn't realize you had those. Do you eat them?

[silvestris]

In the most delightful ways. When they aren't lighting our porches for kids, we mash them into pies, or boil them into soups. You'd love it.

...You really don't have holidays? Are you a Jehovah's Witness?

[notdreaming]

Oh, we have plenty of holidays. I'm not sure when they are in comparison to Earth's calendar, since the orbit and rotation are different... [ But seasons, that's a thing, so she can kinda guess? ]

Do Jehovah's Witnesses not celebrate anything?

[silvestris]
